Pretzel Heath Bits Layered Chocolate Mousse

You know how there are some foods that you can only get at restaurants? You're entire childhood, you never even questioned whether it might be possible to make them yourself at home? Well, that's how chocolate mousse was for me. A magical, unattainable delicacy only found at the rarest restaurants and cafes. But I was foolish. This magical dessert was always only three ingredients away. Whipped cream, fluffed egg whites, and melted chocolate.

But I couldn't stop there. I had to add MORE chocolate. And heath and pretzels....

Pretzel Heath Bits Layered Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients:
  • 11.5 Ounces (1 small bag) Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips (Milk chocolate, or dark. Whichever you prefer)
  • 1 Teaspoon Butter
  • 1 Pint Whipping Cream (+ extra if you want to set some aside to layer with)
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Cup Pasteurized Egg Whites
  • 2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
  • 8 Ounces Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee Bits
  • 2 Cups Pretzels (Lightly crushed)
Directions:
  • In a very clean mixing bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks begin to form.
  •  Place in separate, large mixing bowl.
  • Wash the egg whites out of first bowl and beat the whipping cream and sugar until soft peaks form.
  • Melt chocolate with the butter in the microwave, stir every 20 seconds until smooth.
  • Fold together: Egg whites, whipped cream, and melted chocolate until the mixture is satisfactorily fold-a-fied.
  • In clear dessert glasses layer: Mousse, heath, and pretzels (Optional: more whipped cream and drizzle with melted chocolate)

I always feel like a chump when I write that an ingredient is "Optional" on a recipe. Like the whole recipe isn't "Optional". As if you have no say over what you put in your mouth.
Enjoy!
